Storage Ideas to Make your Home Organized

Storage Ideas to Make your Home Organized

What exactly is an organized home? Like most of us this usually means generally about five to ten minutes after it has been tidied, then the organization part gets up and leaves as soon as the kids get home. It’s a true fact of life: a home is a home because it is lived in. So what’s the solution? You could always buy a bigger house to have several rooms dedicated to storing, or, you could re-think the way you’re currently using your storage space to get the most out of it.

‘Sounds too easy’ I hear you say. The truth is adding more storage space in your existing cupboards isn’t as difficult as it may sound. You don’t need to buy new cupboards; you just need to use what you have more efficiently.

First thing is first – you need to choose what you want to store, and, what you are willing to get rid of. Our suggestion is to get someone that isn’t you to help you here. If it’s left entirely to you to make these decisions then, well, you’ll be in the same situation that got you here in the first place. Be objective and give what you don’t use or need to a charity shop.

Now you have decided to avoid hording (yes, you have agreed!) you’ll already have made an impact on your storage space.

Depending on what sort of beds you have using under-bed storage containers are a great way to tidy away items you use on a regular basis, like kids’ toys. If you are planning on changing or upgrading the kids’ beds it would be useful to consider getting beds that also double up with extra storage options, like cabin beds. This also applied for the master and additional bedrooms, as you can buy beds with built-in drawers.

There are also options of storing your possessions in a self storage facility. This can free up space from items that you may want or need to keep, but you no longer have space for. Depending on the type of house you live in you may not have garage or additional storage options. There are two options to consider once you have a rough idea of these considerations.

The first is self storage. This option gives you regular access to your possessions, twenty four hours a day, seven day a week, and there is no extra cost to utilize this service. The room will come with its own combination locking system and the size of the room will depend on your specific size requirements. If at any time you require an adjustment, the self storage company you use can change rooms for you and will provide detailed information about the charges for this service. All self storage units are monitored by CCTV to ensure that all movements in and out of your storage unit are recorded. Items that are about a certain value can have additional insurance if necessary.

The second option is to use a sealed box unit. This option is the best price-wise, is guaranteed to be completely secure, and is the best option for people who are considering a longer-term move, where they need piece of mind that their possessions are secure at all times.

A typical sealed box is 8 feet in height, giving 250 cubic feet of space. A typical one bedroom flat would use approximately one-to-two of these containers, with the amount going up by room per room. The self storage company will bring the container(s) to your home and will provide a packing and transport service, taking care and consideration for the safe handling and storage at all times. You will be provided with a key for this unit and the self storage company can also keep a spare key for you, if you choose this option.

Both options for self storage will have guaranteed safety precautions and security measures in place to ensure that your property is safeguarded at all times. You should also check with the self storage company for any additional options they can offer, like man and van, removals, maintenance and shipping facilities.

All self storage companies will have varying terms and conditions for what can be stored, so also keep this in mind before you order your required self storage unit(s). The self storage company will provide detailed information about what items can or cannot be stored.

The best way to organizing your house is to realize that Mum always knows best. Use the storage space you have and create more by getting rid of the things you no longer use or need, and buy some affordable storage to compliment the space you have.
