15 tips on how a proper gentleman entertains
Whether entertaining family, friends or that special lady in your life, conducting yourself as a gentleman is what will take your evening to the next level. To help ensure you are equipped with the best advice to turn a good night into an inspirational one, chef Corbin Tomaszeski, host of Dinner Party Wars, developed the following gentleman entertaining tips.
1. A gentleman always offers his guests a welcome cocktail.
2. A gentleman says “please” and “thank you,” readily and often, regardless of whom the gentleman is speaking to.
3. A gentleman is always ready to offer a strong handshake.
4. A gentleman never approaches a woman first at the bar or tavern.
5. A gentleman knows the most important part of a party is to be social and goes to every effort to make his guests feel comfortable.
6. A gentleman does not concern himself with gossip - remember the old saying "loose lips sink ships."
7. When sitting down for a meal, a gentleman should wait until all the guests are properly seated and ready to commence the meal before eating.
8. A gentleman always removes his headwear upon entering a building. Furthermore, he never keeps his hat on while at the dinner table.
9. A gentleman always wears something that makes him feel like a million bucks. If he doesn’t have any clothes that makes him feel like George Clooney in Ocean's 11, he will go out and find some.
10. When escorting a lady to and from social events, a gentleman always offers her his arm.
11. Perhaps the greatest sign of respect, which is what a gentleman is all about, is being on time and punctual.
12. A gentleman’s attention should always be focused on the person he is talking with. A Gentleman always looks at them when listening as well as when he is in control of the conversation.
13. A gentleman does not shout across the dinner table – he concentrates on those closest to him, addressing those on his left and right.
14. A gentleman only talks once he has been formally introduced. If he feels like speaking to somebody, he will find a person that he has in common and arrange a proper introduction.
15. A gentleman is always a gracious guest and thanks the host of a social function before leaving.
