Pamper yourself with a luxurious spa in your own bathroom

Pamper yourself with a luxurious spa in your own bathroom

There is nothing more relaxing than visiting a luxury spa for the day. However, if the budget is a little restricted, then a spa day may be reserved for very special occasions only. You can create a similar atmosphere at home with just a few additions to your own bathroom that cost very little.

1. Spruce Things Up.

If the bathroom is looking somewhat tired, untidy and dirty, then the first step is to give it a thorough clean. A professional spa would never contemplate treating customers in untidy surroundings, so take a leaf out their book and aim for a clean and pristine base to work from. Clutter and dirt mean stress so clear your space beforehand.

2. Don't skimp on the Bathroom Linen.

One of the things about a professional spa that gives it that extra luxurious feel is the quality of the bathrobes and towels they use. Soft and fluffy cotton bath sheets are a must, together with a smaller towel from which to make a head turban. Treat yourself to a plush bath robe, too, if the budget will allow. Not having to worry about getting dressed again after your treatments is a plus point to doing this at home, so a quality bath robe can be relied upon to continue the relaxation after the treatments are over.

3. Invest in Luxury Bath and Body Products.

Whether you have favourite bath foam and body lotion or are open to something new that you haven't tried before, the products you use will enhance the sense of luxury you get from your special spa. If your budget is exceptionally tight, you could try searching web for home-made face and body pack recipes that use store-cupboard ingredients such as oatmeal and honey.

Always try a patch test if you are trying a manufactured product for the first time, though, just in case of an allergic reaction. For added luxury, try scenting your linen with lavender too. There are some fantastic exclusive offers on towels available online and once purchased, these can be folded away with fresh lavender buds inside them ready for your spa-at-home day. A few days in the airing cupboard and they will smell divine.

4. Create the Ambiance.

A professional spa uses candles and soft music to create just the right atmosphere and you can do this at home too. Surround the bath with scented candles and place some on the windowsill, on shelves and on surfaces. The more the merrier, but make sure that they have a heat resistant surface to sit on.

Pick out some relaxing mood music, such as some classical pieces and either invest in a battery operated bathroom CD player or MP3 dock or otherwise turn the volume up on the Hi-Fi so that it is loud enough to hear in the bathroom. The aim is for background music so nothing to stimulating or loud.

5. Relax!

Light the candles, start the music and run the bath. While you're waiting, apply a face mask. Voill! Lie back and enjoy the sounds and smells of your spa safe in the knowledge that it hasn't cost you a fortune.
